Description

This is a beautiful Antique Persian Karadje runner (also spelled Karajeh), a highly prized tribal weave from the Northwest region of Iran near Heriz. True to the traditional Karadje style, the rug features a vertical alignment of bold, distinct geometric medallions down the central field. The center medallions display an intricate, eight-pointed stepped star surrounded by crisp ivory-colored tribal latch-hooks alternating with contrasting octagonal medallions with a geometric core. The rug is woven with highly saturated, naturally dyed wool. It features a vibrant rust-red or terracotta background, deeply grounded with shades of midnight navy blue, ivory, soft salmon, and pops of forest green and ochre. The primary field is enclosed by a series of crisp geometric borders, most notably a striking ivory-ground main border filled with stylized, multi-colored floral and geometric rosettes. This piece shows a sturdy, hand-knotted wool pile on a strong foundation. It carries the signature artistic charm of Northwest Persian village weavers, prioritizing angular geometry over the curved, fluid lines seen in formal city rugs. Measurements are 2'10 " x 10'10 ". Rug number L32796
