A hand-woven rug from Afghanistan in the style of a Central Asian Suzani, in earth tones with a cerulean blue medallion and accents in rust-red, golden yellow, soft cream, and hints of green. A prominent, large octagonal medallion takes up the center of the rug. It is bordered by geometric framing and contains a smaller orange hexagon at its absolute center. The blue central field is decorated with primitive, stylized animals (resembling deer, horses, or goats) and stylized birds interspersed with geometric shrubs or trees. The four dark corners of the field feature red stepped geometric brackets, decorated with white scroll-like hooks (often referred to as "running water" or bird motifs in tribal weaving. The primary field is enclosed by a series of narrow geometric borders. The main outer border is a striking red band decorated with recurring blue and yellow abstract geometric symbols. The rug is finished with a thick, plain dark band on the outermost edges and minimal cream fringe at the top and bottom.
