This hand-woven rug from Afghanistan is in the style of a Persian Serab. The core of the rug has a warm camel brown background. It is dominated by a large, elongated navy blue diamond medallion outlined in red and ivory. The central medallion is filled with small, repeating orange and ivory geometric floral motifs. At its exact center sits a smaller, stepped ivory diamond containing a green and red geometric cross-like emblem. The corners of the main inner field are filled with navy blue triangular sections, mirroring the pattern of the central medallion with repeating small orange floral shapes. The central field is framed by several decorative borders that graduate outward - a narrow, patterned band with small geometric shapes; a wide, prominent ivory-colored band featuring large, alternating geometric flower heads in red and navy, interspersed with stylized, angular hook motifs; and a final, narrow brick-red band decorated with a continuous, delicate floral vine pattern.
